Explore the Region
The Loire Valley and Brittany's southern coast are both within easy reach — a few favorites if it's your first time in this part of France.
Puy du Fou
A must — trust us on this one.
France's most-visited theme park after Disneyland Paris, but with no rollercoasters — instead, nighttime Viking ship battles, gladiator shows, and a cast of thousands of volunteer actors bringing history to life. There's nothing quite like it in the US. Plan a full day.
Clisson
So pretty it looks unreal.
Rebuilt in Italian style in the 19th century, all terracotta, umbrella pines and a dramatic riverside château ruin. It's also the heart of Muscadet country — the region's crisp local white — so a wine tasting is well worth the stop.
Nantes
Stylish, and a little surreal.
Birthplace of Jules Verne, and home to Les Machines de l'île — a giant mechanical elephant roams the old shipyards, part art installation, part theme park, all imagination. The historic center is also lovely for a wander.
La Baule & Guérande
Brittany's southern edge.
If you want a beach day, this is it: a sweeping stretch of Atlantic coastline, the salt marshes of Guérande, and a walled medieval town that feels untouched by time. Easily combined into one coastal day.
Saumur
The Loire Valley, postcard-perfect.
A fairytale château on a hill above the river, troglodyte cave dwellings carved into the cliffs, and some of the region's best sparkling wine. A classic Loire day trip.
Mont-Saint-Michel
Further out, but worth it.
The island abbey is one of France's most extraordinary sights — just far enough that we'd suggest it only if you're extending your trip. Best done as an overnight rather than a rushed day trip.
Renting a car gives you the most freedom to explore before or after the wedding weekend. Details on getting around live on our Travel page.
